This switch does not "hang" when one or more of the attached systems is turned off like some other KVM's I have used. Running a monitor at 1920 x 1200 resolution there is no degradation. I have found that it is important for the KVM switch to be switched to a computer when it is being started to ensure the monitor is recognized as the proper resolution. The KVM switch works quite well. I have an iMac, a Mac G5, and a PC connected to the switch and it does the job.
That's a HUGE plus in my book as I was about to throw out my macbook in favor of a lousy PC simply because of monitor connectivity issues. This is fine for USB audio devices and printers, etc but if you were thinking of using it to connect external usb drives like me, you'll be quite upset at the lousy 12Mbps connection you'll get with it.
If they had made the onboard usb 2.0, this would be the best 4 port DVI KVM solution available on the market, both in price and quality. Other than that, it works perfectly and the audio switching is a cool function that I use a lot.
I really like this product but it has a major shortcoming. What were they thinking.
If connecting usb drives is not a requirement, then this is the best 4 port DVI KVM solution out there. It fixed my issues with connecting my macbook to non-apple monitors.
The bad news is that the built-in USB port that you can manually switch with the KVM is only USB 1.1.
I would avoid purchasing a KVM product that didn't include all cables. The cabling that is included with the product is high quality and easy to use. The "combo" cables that are provided are the only way you can neatly connect this much gear together. This product is my first experience with any sort of KVM technology. It works perfectly.
No sound issues with my 3.1 system, sounds the same with no static or noise. Only use this if you are using DVI don't use if you have VGA with DVI adapter (VGA KVM's are less $). Running computers at 1680x1050 on a Samsung 226BW, no problems.
It works fine. Can't use the hot keys this way, but not a big deal. I am using this with my Linux server and 2 Windows machines.
If you boot a computer and it is not selected the resolution defaults to 1024x768. Supplied cables could be a little longer but work fine. I am not using the front keyboard and mouse ports, due to my multimedia keyboard and 7 button mouse, just the usb on the back.
You have to hold down the button on the KVM to get the usb to switch computers.
A SERIAL port. This KVM switch is worthless.I was unable to try the firmware upgrade because it required a serial port on a Windows machine. The USB light for the second computer wouldn't turn on either, even though it was connected properly.
I hooked up my Mac G5 Tower and my Dell PC and it wouldn't send a signal through to the monitor, a Samsung 24" flatscreen. A black screen. This KVM switch completely failed to work.
I tried restarting all of the computers, powering on/off the monitor, the KVM switch, and nothing worked. What year do they think this is. Just.
nothing.
